U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Education released a report regarding foreign funding in higher education and enforcement of Section 117 of the Higher Ed Act of 1965.

"The Chinese Communist Party is targeting America’s colleges. Our colleges -- institutions built to promote the very kind of free thought that the communists in Beijing so desperately fear -- ought to be more transparent with their foreign contracts and comply with existing law. Universities need to be more engaged and realize that the CCP intentionally blurs the line between public and private to expand power and influence."

Background: The Department of Education recently launched investigations into 12 schools who had reportedly failed to fully disclose foreign contracts. Some of these schools reportedly entered into contracts with Huawei, a known tech spy arm of the Chinese Communist Party.
