U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, issued the following statement in support of Burmese Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun, who was fired after publicly denouncing his country’s recent military coup.

“The Burmese military will never be able to massacre its way to democratic legitimacy. Kyaw Moe Tun has vowed to continue his fight for the people of Burma demanding rule of law and respect for fundamental freedoms. He is not alone and his example should inspire the freedom-loving world to act to hold the murderous junta to account for their crimes.”
