U.S. Senator Ben Sasse issued the following statement regarding President Biden’s budget that would eliminate the Hyde Amendment’s nearly half-century, bipartisan ban on taxpayer funding of abortions.

“The Hyde Amendment is a bipartisan compromise that saves lives and keeps taxpayers out of the abortion business. President Biden put out the first budget in decades that tries to kill the Hyde Amendment. In 2007, Senator Biden said — in a book titled Promises to Keep — he supported the Hyde Amendment because ‘I don’t think I have a right to impose my view… on the rest of society.’ What changed? This budget is wildly out of step with a majority of the American people — Republicans, Democrats, and independents — who don’t want to fund Big Abortion. This isn’t going anywhere in a 50/50 Senate.”
