U.S. Senator Ben Sasse issued the following statement after a federal judge ruled that the District of Columbia acted unlawfully by restricting worship services but not public protests during the coronavirus pandemic.

“This is a win for the First Amendment. There are five freedoms in the First Amendment — religion, speech, press, assembly, and protest — and the government doesn’t get to pick and choose. Bureaucrats can’t say ‘we like your protest, but we don’t like your worship service.’ This decision is good news for all Americans."
