U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement regarding polling from Gallup and the New York Times this morning that shows a majority of Americans both support Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s confirmation to the Supreme Court and reject court packing.

"Today’s polling makes it clear that Sheldon Whitehouse’s conspiracy theory charts and Mazie Hirono’s baffling cross examination failed to bork Judge Barrett. The American people tuned out the nonsense and saw Judge Barrett’s intelligence and humility. The left’s apocalyptic rhetoric and court packing schemes are wildly out of touch."

Background: The week before Judge Barrett’s confirmation hearing, Senator Sasse — a longtime advocate for Judge Barrett — predicted that “the left’s apocalyptic rhetoric will seem extra nutty when Americans hear from Judge Barrett at her confirmation hearings."

Today, polling from Gallup shows that a majority of Americans — including a majority of Independents — want to see Judge Barrett on the Supreme Court.

Today, polling from The New York Times shows 58% of Americans — including 65% of independents — oppose court packing.
