U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, member of the Senate Select Intelligence Committee, issued the following statement regarding Secretary of State Pompeo’s announcement that, given Russia’s non-compliance, the U.S. will not remain in the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty.

“Moscow owns the blame. Putin has violated the INF treaty for the past five years and we gave him six months to change course. The difference between a treaty and a piece of scrap paper is compliance from all parties. President Reagan wouldn’t have put up with this nonsense and neither will we. Secretary Pompeo is right and our NATO allies unanimously agree: Americans can’t hold ourselves to a deal Putin already terminated.”
