U.S Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit struck down Governor Cuomo’s discriminatory restrictions on religious gatherings, delivering a key win for the First Amendment.
“The First Amendment is what America is all about, and that means heavy-handed politicians can’t act like religious liberty is theirs to bestow or to withhold. Governor Cuomo’s intentional targeting of religious New Yorkers has been slapped down in court, again. The Judicial branch is screaming from the rooftops: a pandemic doesn’t rewrite the Constitution.”
